From the chestnuts and panellets of the Castanyada to the pumpkins and costumes of Halloween, Barcelona is warming up to welcome a new autumn full of tradition and goosebumps scares. In the midst of all this, the Candlelight Halloween in Barcelona will fill the city with candles and sinister music to celebrate the spookiest season.
Candlelight: Halloween Classics
The main theme from Danny Elfman’s Beetlejuice, the theme from Mike Oldfield’s The Exorcist, and Ray Parker Jr.’s Ghostbusters transform the room into a stage filled with playful ghosts and devilish mischief. The string quartet performs the over-the-top eccentricity of Elfman, the repetitive hypnosis of Oldfield and the funk cheekiness of Parker Jr. inviting the audience to laugh, startle and move to the rhythm of each spectral beat.
With the strings in the foreground, every whisper and every jazzy riff is reinvented. The interplay between pizzicatos, bows and a vibrant rhythmic pulse brings new richness to these mythical soundtracks. The most recognizable themes come to life in chamber music format and confirm that horror can also be pure fun.
Candlelight Halloween at the Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona
The neo-Mudejar ornamentation and the vaults of the Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona are transformed under the glow of thousands of candles, projecting shadows that envelop the hall in an atmosphere of enigma and delicate chill.
The concert lasts 60 minutes and the doors open 30-45 minutes before, giving time to immerse oneself in the gloomy atmosphere. The repertoire includes Thriller by Michael Jackson, Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns and Stranger Things by S U R V I V E, pieces that add a touch of mystery to the glow of the candles. A meeting like this only happens once a year and to miss it would be to miss one of the most anticipated events of the autumn in Barcelona.
