Calendar of Easter 2025 in Barcelona: What are the public holidays?
This year Easter has fallen a little late, and that’s why everyone wonders what days are exactly the holidays in Catalonia. We tell you.
In Catalonia this year the public holidays are April 18 (Good Friday) and April 21 (Easter Monday), which allows us to have a good long weekend vacation.
Palm Sunday is also a liturgically important day, but as it is Sunday, it does not count as an additional holiday.
In the rest of Spain, Good Friday is replaced by Maundy Thursday (April 17), since Catalonia traditionally chooses Friday as a free choice holiday for the Autonomous Community.
Find your favorite Easter Monas
Betting on some of the best monas of 2025.
Three pastry shops in Barcelona have won some awards this year for the best monas of 2025. Explore them in our article and salivate with the fantasies they have made in the form of chocolate.
Or take a tour of the bakeries that have some of the coolest and richest monas in Barcelona.
Apart from the winners, Barcelona has many bakeries that make absolutely amazing monas. We leave you with a few so you can take a “monero” walk around Barcelona.

Go to the traditional Easter processions and Stations of the Cross.
Although its ceremonies are not as well known as in other cities, in Barcelona you can also get to know this solemn religious celebration through its Easter Week processions and Stations of the Cross.

Sign up for a workshop at the Museum of Xocolata
As every year, the Xocolata Museum organizes activities for the whole family in its workshop in Ciutat Vella. The premise can be seen coming from afar and there is no lack of desire: they will teach you how to make cookies, lollipops and Easter monkeys with all the necessary material and utensils and guided so that even the little ones don’t get lost. In addition, if you just like chocolate but your troop is not familiar, there are chocolate tastings with wine, cava or beer pairing, guided tours and lollipop workshop for adults.

Enjoy a fun and educational plan for the whole family.
Easter means, among other things, having the kids idle for a week. In this sense, Paradox Museum is a very good option: it is an interactive museum that, under the concept of paradox, introduces us to a world full of optical effects, perspective games, tricks and installations designed to take pictures and funny videos.
The little ones will flip out with all these spaces where touching is not forbidden, and adults will also have a great time because, let’s not deny it, we all like to play and take funny pictures.

Escapades for Easter
Perhaps it is the worst time to choose to escape from the city, but sometimes we do not choose when to go. Therefore, we propose these 21 charming villages so that your pocket does not suffer with planes or trains because they are all close to Barcelona. In addition, if you want a day trip, we also propose these hiking trails (many known, others not so much) to disconnect in nature on Friday, but celebrate the passion of Christ on Sunday. All within reach of your city.

Go to see the Dance of Death of Verges
Visit that exhibition you have pending
Permanent, temporary and immersive exhibitions… Barcelona has an impressive cultural offer in terms of exhibitions, and this Easter is your chance to visit the one you’ve been saying for months that you want to go (of course, before it ends).
We suggest Universo Goya: between light and darkness at Casa Amattler. A journey through the artist’s work from the inside, from a perspective never seen before.
Centre d’Art Amatller. Passeig de Gràcia 41.
Find your Candlelight concert
The intimate candlelight concerts Candlelight have a program for everyone. And when we say everyone, they have tributes to Coldplay, The Beatles, Queen, Vivaldi or Artic Monkeys. If you don’t know them yet, it can be one of the best discoveries of this Easter. Among the proposals of the program for these dates we find tributes to Joan Manuel Serrat, Ennio Morricone, ABBA, Ludovico Einaudi? where hundreds of candles will shine to the rhythm of the classics and not so classics.

Workshops for children at Banksy Museum
Banksy Museum, a tribute space to the street-art artist that exhibits more than 150 recreations of his work, will have during all the days of the school vacations (from April 14 to 21) special activities designed for children, although adults can also participate in some of them. So, for a while, we can be museum guides, make graffiti with spray paint and brushes, and decorate used cans (this last activity is exclusively for children under 10 years). These activities are included free with museum admission, which is a great experience for all ages.

Tasting bunyols de quaresma (or learning how to cook them)
Every time of the year is accompanied by certain flavors. The flavor of these dates is that of bunyols. It is not that Catalan gastronomy has invented anything. Dishes like this, sweet but also savory, are eaten all over the world. Each one with its own particularity but all capable of awakening the nostalgia that only the palate knows how to earn. Bunyolsare many and very good throughout Barcelona, but we wanted to approach the legendary pastry Brunells, in the Born, to tell us how they are made.

Going on a gastronomic getaway to Badalona
Not going on a trip does not mean staying at home day in and day out. You can take the opportunity to visit some towns on the Catalan coast; towns that, in many cases, are close to Barcelona and that allow you to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is the case of Badalona, a few kilometers from the capital and that offers several places where you will eat luxury. We are talking about Estupendu or Al marge, among many others. Discover them all here.

Escaping to La Fageda d’en Jordà
La Fageda d’en Jordà is one of the treasures of the Catalan territory: not only for its beautiful landscape, but also for the gastronomic richness of the area of La Garrotxa. It has 21 volcanoes, which surround a large beech forest. In addition, the flatness of the landscape allows easy excursions while enjoying the beauty of the surroundings.

Gorgs and natural pools, refresh yourself in the middle of the mountain.
At Easter the heat begins to arrive, and the most daring are used to make the first swim of the year (or second if you are one of those who get into the sea on January 1). The water is usually cold, let’s not fool ourselves, but it always pays off. So if you want to spend a day out of the city, but you want to avoid the beaches, we suggest you go to one of these eight natural pools where you can enjoy a swim in the middle of nature.

Fields of flowers to enjoy the spring
