It was already known that the 2026 Tour de France would start from Barcelona, but the details were missing, which have arrived to announce an initial stage that will be, to say the least, visually attractive: a time trial that will start in the Forum and end in Montjuïc to officially kick off the most important cycling race in the world.
With this, Barcelona will host for the first time the start, the grand départ, of the Tour, and its streets will see two stages that will circulate through its streets. We tell you all the details so you don’t miss anything.
When will the start of the Tour de France 2026 be in Barcelona?
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the Grand Départ will take place in Barcelona, thus inaugurating the Tour de France in Barcelona.
However, the excitement can be experienced from a few days before. On July 1, the reception and press centers will open at the Palau Sant Jordi. The official presentation of the teams will take place on Thursday, July 2, before a rest day that will precede the start of the competition.
First stage: time trial from the Forum to Montjuïc
The opening stage on July 4 will be a 19.7-kilometer team time trial. The stage will start from the Parc del Fòrum beach and will go through some of the most emblematic points of the city, passing through the Sagrada Familia, the Avenida del Litoral and the mountain of Montjuïc, where the cyclists will face the last climb to the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys, the finish line.
Second stage: start in Tarragona, finish in Barcelona
On Sunday, July 5, the Tour de France will continue with its second stage, which will start in Tarragona and finish again in Barcelona. It will be a 178-kilometer route, with a mostly flat profile, although with two outstanding climbs in Begues and Sant Creu d’Olorda. The stage will culminate with two laps of the Montjuïc circuit, before reaching the finish line at the Olympic Stadium.
Stage 3: Farewell from Granollers to France
On Monday, July 6, the peloton will bid farewell to Catalonia with the third stage, which will start from Granollers and take the riders towards the Pyrenees and the French border. This will be the last day on Spanish territory before the race continues on French soil.
