If Barcelona were an instrument, what would it be? There are many options that come to mind and yet one that stands out a little bit above the rest: the drum. Because its festivals have historically been covered in rhythm and because its current music scene includes shows and training schools for percussionists. No matter how much time passes, Barcelona doesn’t lose its pulse. And now, ‘We call it Drums’ comes to town with a percussion show that will enlighten (literally and metaphorically) music and film lovers.
And all in the iconic Poliorama Theater (wheelchair accessible), whose stage will witness how the light follows the rhythm of some of the best soundtracks of cinema. A synchronization that can be experienced on selected dates in the coming months and whose places are limited, so we recommend you book yours in time before they run out. Because watching Star Wars is fine, but being enlightened by its rhythm… is a little better.
What is ‘We call it Drums’?
The result of joining rhythm, light and some of those timeless soundtracks. A percussion show that, for 60 minutes, transforms every beat of the drumstick into a point of light thanks to the LED lights that illuminate the drums of the five local professional musicians.
A way to follow the rhythm of cinema in a three-act show. Three parts where we will witness the talent of the percussionists, we will forget to blink to see the lights and we will feel like asking the person next to us “Hey, was that real?” after the drum solo.
Why are the drums so hypnotic?
Just like fireworks, percussion has that something that makes our chest rumble. A feeling hard to describe that we also feel (on a smaller scale) when we follow with our fingers the rhythm of a song that has stuck in our minds. And the answer to why it makes us feel so good has a scientific justification: it has been proven that drumming makes us release endorphins. And ‘We call it Drums’ comes to Barcelona with the union of two things that lead to segregate more hormones of happiness: rhythm and cinema.
From the creators of ‘We call it Jazz’ and ‘We call it Tango’, rhythm conquers Barcelona on selected dates with ‘We call it Drums’. A show that will cover the impressive Poliorama Theater with light and the pulse of some of the best soundtracks. Its doors will open half an hour before the start of the show, and seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis (within the section chosen in the purchase process). “I don’t have rhythm,” said the librarian in a certain series about two brothers with a lot to do in the summer. But he was probably saying that because he didn’t know ‘We call it Drums’ existed.
