Yesterday, Catalonia suffered the ravages of a storm system bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms, which resulted in one fatality, flooding, and transportation disruptions and outages. The Garraf region, the Maresme, Girona, and the Barcelona metropolitan area and city are the hardest-hit areas.
According to the weather forecast from AEMET and Meteocat, all signs point to a gradual improvement in weather conditions throughout the day today (Thursday, September 17). A few isolated showers and intermittent rain are expected , but they will be much lighter.
Although the weather situation has improved dramatically, Civil Protection is maintaining the INUNCAT plan at the Alert phase, primarily due to the consequences of the flooding and as a preventive measure. No restrictions on movement have been imposed, nor have classes been suspended, but the public is urged to avoid flood-prone areas and to exercise caution when traveling by road.
Meanwhile, in some parts of Catalonia, power outages and disruptions to the electrical grid continue to be reported, particularly in the Barcelona metropolitan area and in some parts of Girona. Maintenance crews are working to resolve the issue, and power is being restored gradually. At the height of the storms, it is estimated that nearly 8,000 households were without power.
