Everyone knows the Sagrada Família, but very few are familiar with the building where Antoni Gaudí first tested many of his most brilliant architectural solutions. A space of slanted columns and organic forms that resembles a cave carved by nature and that, this fall, will become the setting for one of the season’s most special musical events.
On October 16, the Gaudí Crypt will host a special candlelit concert featuring Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. A perfect combination of one of the most inspiring works of classical music—drawn from the natural cycles—and a temple designed precisely in the image and likeness of nature.

Cripta Gaudí
The Sagrada Família’s “laboratory,” 30 minutes from Barcelona
About 23 kilometers from Barcelona —and perfect for a half-hour getaway—Santa Coloma de Cervelló is home to Colònia Güell, a 19th-century industrial village that businessman Eusebi Güell had built for his workers. In 1898, he commissioned Gaudí to build its church. However, in 1914, the Güell family withdrew its funding, and only the lower nave was completed—what we know today as the Gaudí Crypt.
Far from being a minor work, Gaudí used this structure as his true testing ground: there, he calculated the structures using his famous models suspended by strings and weights, and later applied those same ideas to the Sagrada Família. The significance of this space is such that in 2005 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Four Seasons illuminate the crypt with thousands of candles

The concert will be performed by the Barcelona Quartet, a string quartet that will perform all four concertos from Antonio Vivaldi’s famous work (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter), as well as including the majestic composition *La Folía* in the program. All of this will take place in the intimate atmosphere of the nave, surrounded by the carefully designed lighting featuring thousands of candles characteristic of Candlelight concerts, which will highlight the stone, the arches, and the organic details of the church.
Getting there from Barcelona is very easy and is part of the getaway: simply take the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat trains ( lines S4, S8, or S33) from Plaça Espanya and get off at the Colònia Güell station. Tickets are now on sale through the Fever platform.
