Madonna is in love with Barcelona. The Queen of Pop has declared her love for Spain—and especially for Barcelona and its atmosphere—a thousand and one times. Ever since she first visited Catalonia (36 years ago, in 1990), the singer has been spotted on numerous occasions incognito around the city—in restaurants, on terraces, or riding a bike like any other local.
A few days ago, in a “making-of” video for her latest album, *Confessions II*, the artist once again spoke about Spain, flamenco, and a Barcelona venue recommended for its shows and great music. Madonna said that in her next life she wants to be Spanish, live in Madrid, and “learn to dance flamenco and speak Spanish.”
Arca, the Venezuelan artist and friend of Madonna’s, reminded her of a place in Barcelona with excellent flamenco: 23 Robadors, and explained that the name is in Catalan and what the word means. The American singer capped off the recommendation with an affectionate nod: “‘Robadors,’ you’ve stolen my soul!”
23 Robadors: Over 20 Years of Singer-Songwriter Music
The place chosen by the star is a cult venue and hub of resistance on Carrer del Robador, right in the heart of the Raval: a small venue that features live music—especially flamenco and jazz—every day. Well-known and lesser-known artists gather at this venue, which has been open for over 20 years.
An authentic spot, to say the least, that thrives in a neighborhood full of contrasts and embraces that cultural identity as its very essence: a space where musicians and all kinds of people mingle without quite knowing “where the concert ends and the party begins.” A venue worth visiting for a drink… or however many you end up having.
