Barcelona is synonymous with culture. You can feel it in its streets, its traditions, and its people. And to honor that unofficial title of “cultural capital” it is often given, the City Council has invested 1.5 million euros to launch a new edition of the Bonus Cultura.
This initiative aims to increase the consumption of cultural content and attract new audiences who are not as familiar with these types of offerings. To this end, more than 55,000 20-euro vouchers will be issued to be spent on live performances, movie screenings, or books, at the consumer’s discretion.
The distribution of these vouchers is divided into three periods, and each person may request one per period, up to a total of 60 euros. The first phase begins today, Wednesday, November 4, and runs through January 10, 2027. The second and third phases will run from January 11 to April 25 and from April 26 to July 31, respectively.
It is not possible to accumulate multiple vouchers: each 20-euro voucher has an expiration date tied to its specific period. Additionally, the vouchers are not automatically reloaded; you must apply for the Bonus Cultura independently for each round.
The balance can be used up in a single purchase or split across multiple transactions, and if the purchase exceeds 20 euros, you’ll have to pay the difference out of pocket.
Eligibility Requirements and How to Apply for the Bonus Cultura
The Bonus Cultura aims to attract as wide an audience as possible, and anyone over the age of 18 with a DNI or NIE is eligible for the subsidy. It is not necessary to be registered as a resident or to live in Barcelona, but the vouchers can only be spent at cultural venues and establishments within the city.
To apply, simply follow these three steps:
- Visit the Bonus Cultura website.
- Register on the platform with your personal information.
- Activate your profile and digital wallet on the platform to receive the 20€ credit.
You can redeem it in two ways:
- Buy performing arts and movie tickets online through the sales channels of the venues participating in the program.
- Select a bookstore participating in the program from the online catalog and generate a digital voucher with a QR code to show and redeem in person when paying. Please note that this is exclusively for books in the Catalan language.
