Barcelona has a form of entertainment never seen before in the city (and in the world): Alfa5, a center dedicated to XR Sports. In this center fans of new sensations can enjoy up to nine experiences, regardless of age or physical condition. You can get your tickets here.
With its more than 2,000 m2, Alfa5 becomes the largest XR Sports center in the world. XR Sports are a new concept of entertainment and that, in a few words, can be defined as sports expanded with a digital layer, that is, experiences that exceed all kinds of limits.
Sport and technology in nine experiences for all audiences
Alfa5 has nine experiences focused on fun and also on competition (if you feel like it). The combination of sport and technology of XR Sports makes them suitable for all kinds of physical conditions, unlike traditional sports. That’s why their motto is “make the impossible possible”, since anyone will be able to enjoy their exciting activities.
As we don’t want to spoil the surprise, we are not going to reveal the nine experiences that Alfa5 consists of, but we will only give you hints of some of them.
The jewel in the crown is the XR Arena, Alfa5’s largest room, where audiovisual and interactive technology converge so that, in teams, we can achieve the highest score. Flatball is the game that currently occupies the space, conceived and designed from scratch for Alfa5 and which can be enjoyed here exclusively.
Another essential space is XR Fly, ideal if you have always dreamed of paragliding but have never dared. This room offers this experience in virtual reality to enjoy a jump to 4,000m high within everyone’s reach.
Being in a city like Barcelona, it could not miss a space dedicated to the king of sports. XR Ball combines soccer and gaming, with an activity in which we will have to shoot between four interactive walls. Ideal for both soccer fans and for those who simply enjoy playing with or against the other participants.
Other rooms include tennis with a digital overlay, a rock climbing wall for all ages, a sophisticated Metaverse with an addictive laser tag style game...If you want to know more, you’ll have to come and find out.
Alfa5 is as much fun in company as it is alone: some of the experiences, such as XR Ball or Flatball, are designed for team play, while others, such as XR Fly, are individual activities.
A bracelet that opens all doors
Alfa5 is designed to get you hooked on its activities and, as in any challenge, you can also improve your score. That’s why you will be given a bracelet that you can link to your user profile when you enter, so you can create your profile as soon as you arrive to save your scores, unlock achievements and much more!
In addition, this bracelet will be used to accumulate hard currency, the Alfa5 currency. Each entry to Alfa5 gives you 20 duros to access the different experiences (which have different prices that you can check in the store). You can use the bracelet on your visit and use it again on subsequent visits. In it you can accumulate duros and you can always recharge more duros if you want to continue playing or you can transfer them to other users.
Yes, if you are of an age you have guessed it: the duro is a nod to the 5 pesetas of yesteryear and to what we used to do when we went to the arcades and spent 5 duros on a game of our favorite game. Alfa5 takes this concept so that we can use the duros to play one more game (and others, and others…).
An iconic space in Barcelona
The name Alfa5 is not random: it has been chosen because this experience is integrated into the old gym that had the same name a few decades ago, at that time the largest sports center in Catalonia and a reference for the residents of Poblenou and Barcelona in general.
To pay tribute to this iconic space, Alfa5 also has an area called History Hall, which will review the entire history of the gym to the present day, where we could say that it has become the evolution of the classic gyms.
In addition, the new generations also have their tribute space in Alfa5: the center has a spacious room with screens where you can play different indie games made in Barcelona. This room, together with the vending machines, is the perfect respite between games, and in some games you will perform a considerable physical activity, like in the old days of the gym.
