A third of the food produced in the world is in good condition but is thrown away. And not only that, with half of that food, world hunger would be solved. So clear, simple and, at the same time, complicated. That is what explains the Aprofitem els Aliments campaign, an initiative that seeks something simple and difficult: to fight against food waste.
In its fourth edition, the campaign “Aprofitem els aliments”, an initiative of the Department of Agriculture, originally promoted by Ada Parellada, to raise awareness of the importance of reducing food waste, will be supported on several legs, but throughout October there will be a very special one: the Gastrorecup meals, where restaurants join the fight.
Menus made with food that was going to be thrown away: 64 restaurants with menus at 20€.
The Gastrorecup meals are just that: lunches or dinners in top restaurants in Catalonia that, for one day, design a menu with products saved that day from food waste.
Thus, from September 30 to October 31, more than 60 restaurants in Catalonia, many of them in Barcelona, join the Gastrorecup menus, authentic proposals for use cuisine that transform food in good condition recovered and converted into dishes full of flavor.
Restaurants such as Ada Parellada’s Semproniana, Avenir, La Gormanda, Casa Amàlia, Can Culleres or Bar Verat… There are many top restaurants that join the initiative with menus that do not exceed 20 €, just check the list and sign up for the one you like.
And if you do not want to eat … to pick up food in the field
In addition to the Gastrorecup menus in restaurants, the campaign includes two outstanding events. On the one hand, the 5th Marató #JoEspigolo (October 4), which invites citizens to collect products from the countryside that would otherwise be lost.
On the other, the Gran Dinar d’Aprofitament (October 5), a free popular meal for 400 people in Vic, prepared with food in perfect condition recovered thanks to the work of Fundació Espigoladors and other entities.
With Gastrorecup, the Marató and the Gran Dinar, the “Aprofitem els aliments” campaign reinforces a clear message: the food recycling cuisine is not a passing trend, but a necessary movement for a fairer, sustainable and tasty future.
