If you need to take a train today from Barcelona to Madrid or from Madrid to Barcelona, be prepared for a long wait or look for an alternative mode of transportation. Following a fire on an AVE train yesterday afternoon near Ricla (Zaragoza), service will experience significant delays throughout the day today.
Currently, on the section between Ariza and Plasencia de Jalón, trains are operating at a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour and on a single track. This situation will continue until Renfe and Adif crews are able to remove the burned-out train and repair the infrastructure.
To mitigate the impact, Renfe has put high-speed trains with more cars into service and is rebooking passengers. Most Renfe trains are currently experiencing delays of about one hour. The railway company has made changes and refunds available free of charge to anyone affected by this incident.
The fire broke out yesterday, October 12, around 4:00 p.m., and the cause has yet to be determined. The 283 passengers on board were evacuated without injury, and service was suspended until the fire was extinguished late in the afternoon.
