It happened in 1847 when the Gran Teatre del Liceu inaugurated its activity, during the 20th century when its ballet became one of the most important companies in the country, and nowadays with the Ballet de Catalunya. Barcelona does not like ballet: it lives it (and is very good at it). And the arrival of “Ballet of Lights La Cenicienta” to Barcelona proves it. An original dance show where the unforgettable tale of magic, courage and true love shines like never before, thanks to the lights that cover the costumes of the dancers.
In the coming months and on selected dates, Prince Charming can find Cinderella in the neighborhood of Les Corts, in the emblematic Auditori L’illa. A place with unlimited fantasy but limited seating, so we recommend you get your tickets before they sell out and life feels a little like when the carriage turned into a pumpkin.
Ballet of Lights: Cinderella in Barcelona
What has normally been told in three hours of show, “Ballet of Lights” condenses it into 60 minutes of pure magic and dance. A version where the traditional story of Cinderella is told (and above all, danced) with the most classic ballet movements, illuminated in the most innovative way. The ones in charge of making every moment feel like when the prince fits Cinderella? Five professional dancers, who will be dressed in luminous costumes.
Cinderella told through light, music and dance
When a story is good, it lasts forever. And Cinderella is no exception. Charles Perrault was the first to put into words this story of true love and friendly mice in 1967. And later, the Brothers Grimm did the same in their fairy tales of 1812.
A classic that finds in ballet its best language, translating each babidibu into a plié, and filling auditoriums all over the world. It has done… and continues to do now also in Barcelona with shows like “Ballet of Lights”. A proposal as traditional as it is contemporary where the original choreography follows unforgettable melodies such as Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker March , Handel’s Zadok the Priest or the finale of Rossini’s William Tell Overture .
From the creators of Candlelight Ballet, who have given life (and steps) to unforgettable works such as Swan Lake, comes “Ballet of Lights” with another timeless piece of the collective imagination: on selected dates, Cinderella finds true love again.
But better, because this time it is in Barcelona, in the iconic (and wheelchair accessible) Auditori L’illa and in a dance show illuminated by small points of light. An experience that we can live in two different sessions: one at 19:00 and another at 21:00, although you’ll probably want to continue living beyond midnight.
