Next Thursday, April 2, will be a historic day in Barcelona: Barça Femení will play at Spotify Camp Nou for the first time since its renovation. They will face Real Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals. Tickets for the match are now on sale; you can get them here.
The match is scheduled at a time convenient for everyone, at 6:45 p.m., and just before the start of Holy Week (Friday, April 3, is Good Friday, a public holiday). So there are very few excuses not to head over to Les Corts to cheer on Alexia, Patri, Pina, Vicky, and the rest of the Barcelona players.
Road to the Oslo Final
It has been more than 1,000 days since Barça Femení last played at Spotify Camp Nou. It was April 27, 2023, a memorable day: it was the UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinals against Chelsea, and on that occasion, the Barcelona women reached the final and won the competition.
The European championship would once again be colored Blaugrana in 2024, but not in 2025: although they started as favorites, Pere Romeu’s team lost the final against Arsenal F.C. by a very narrow 1-0 margin. We learn from our mistakes, and the Barcelona women are coming this time determined to win the cup again, although to do so, they first face significant challenges.
The match at Spotify Camp Nou will be the second leg of the competition’s quarterfinals. The first leg, to be played at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium (Real Madrid’s home ground) a week earlier, will set the tone and boost the Culers’ morale as they aim to seal the tie. If they advance and also win their semifinal, the UEFA Women’s Champions League final will be played on May 23 at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway.
