This is the T-metropolitan card, a card that from 2024 came to replace the old pink card and is intended for the over 60s and people with reduced mobility.
The name change was used to adapt it to the T-Mobilitat system that now governs all transport passes in Barcelona. However, little has changed with respect to its predecessor.
Who can apply for the T-Metropolitana?
Managed by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), the card is designed for people with limited economic resources who meet certain age, disability and residency requirements.
It is mandatory to be registered in one of the 36 municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.
For senior citizens, the minimum age varies between 60 and 65, depending on the municipality. It can be consulted in the official site of the AMB.
If applying for disability, it is necessary to have more than 4 years of age and a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
How much does T-metropolitana cost?
The price of the T-Metropolitana depends on the type of card you need. Although it is a social card, not all versions are completely free. Here we explain how much each one costs:
T-Metropolitana Tarjeta Rosa Gratuita (Free Pink Card).
With this card you can travel unlimitedly in the metropolitan area without paying for each trip. However, it has a small cost: when you receive it for the first time, you must pay 4,50 € for the physical card (the chip holder), and every year you pay a maintenance fee of 5,90 € to continue using it.
The gross family income per person must not exceed €9,240 per year.
T-Metropolitana Tarjeta Rosa Reducida
This modality works with the T-4, a 10-trip ticket at a reduced price. It has no annual fee, which means that you only pay the €4.50 fee once, when you get the card. Then, you can recharge trips when you need them, with the option of charging up to two T-4 at a time (20 trips).
Gross family income per person must not exceed €18,480 per year.
T-Metropolitana Companion Pass
If you need to travel with someone to accompany you due to your dependency situation, this card allows you to do so at no additional cost for the companion. Like the free card, it has an initial cost of 4.50 € for the physical card, and an annual fee of 5.90 € to keep it active.
