Barcelona is expensive… even for tourists. According to a report by Atrápalo Barcelona was in 2024 the city with the highest accommodation price in Spain.
This report, entitled Habits 2024 and trends in 2025, points out that the average cost of a hotel room or a tourist apartment for a visitor is 302 euros per night, thus placing it ahead of Madrid (295 euros) and Malaga (292 euros).
Barcelona, the preferred city
Despite being the city with the highest cost per night, Barcelona remains one of the favorite destinations for urban tourism in Spain. According to the report, the Catalan capital, leads with Seville and Valencia the preferences of Spanish travelers in 2024.
On the other hand, Barcelona is the third city in terms of length of stay, with an average of 2.7 nights. The list is led by Seville (3.2 nights) and Valencia (2.8 nights).
On the other hand, regarding rural tourism, the queen is Malaga with an average of 4.6 nights per stay and an average price of 579.88 euros per visit. Destinations such as Ronda, Antequera, Comillas and Vejer de la Frontera were the favorites among travelers seeking disconnection in natural surroundings.
For its part, sun and beach tourism continues to be dominated by the Canary Islands, with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Tenerife as the main references. In this segment, Mallorca was crowned as the most exclusive destination, with an average price of 688 euros per night.
Spanish destinations in 2025
Looking ahead to 2025 , the Atrápalo report anticipates several significant trends. In Spain, a boom is expected in historic cities such as Toledo, Cádiz, Vitoria and Cartagena, which will lead new trends in urban tourism.
In rural areas, places such as Cambados (Pontevedra), Tazones (Asturias) and Letur (Albacete) will grow the most due to their commitment to sustainable tourism.
