There are stories that smell of fried food and neighborhood tapas, and that of Bar Córdoba is one of those. This iconic local of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (regular winner of Bravas Fest) is doubly in luck, as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the city and its own 50th birthday as a temple of Andalusian cuisine in the second city of Catalonia. And to celebrate, they have decided to share a secret they have been jealously guarding since 1975: the recipe for their salsa brava.
Bar Córdoba’s salsa brava is not just any brava, it is an urban legend that has forged its fame over five decades. So much so that its formula is a mystery reserved for only two people per generation, ensuring that the flavor remains unique and unmistakable. A tradition that began with the grandmother, passed to the mother, and from there to the current manager, Perico, who has finally achieved the dream of many: bottling the essence of the bar.
After more than a year of work to ensure that the sauce kept its lifelong bar soul, the moment has arrived. This product, which was born to accompany its famous potatoes, is now presented as a versatile condiment, suitable to give a master touch to meats, stews, or even reinvent a simple sandwich. The sale of this sauce comes after decades of requests from customers who dreamed of taking a piece of the magic of Cordoba home with them.
100 kilos of free patatas bravas for a historic party
The official launch of this culinary relic is accompanied by a party in style. On Thursday, December 4, starting at 6:00 p.m., Bar Córdoba at 10 Luarca Street is preparing to hand out no less than 100 kilos of free patatas bravas ( one portion per person, while supplies last). The queue is expected to be long, in what promises to be a popular tribute to the flavor and honest cooking that characterizes them.
The event will be attended by Edu from Bravas Barcelona, an authority on the subject who has already witnessed the success of the sauce at the well-known Bravas Fest. In fact, its fame has transcended borders: not only has the mayor of L’Hospitalet passed by its tables, who jokes calling its sardines in soy “the best sushi in L’Hospitalet”, but internationally renowned chefs such as José Andrés or Ferran Adrià have also succumbed to the charm of this neighborhood tavern.
If you want to get your hands on this new culinary cult object, Bar Córdoba’s salsa brava is already available both in the bar and on its website(https://barcordoba.com/) with shipments throughout Spain, at an introductory price of 4.95 euros for 314 milliliters.
