The Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona will become the stage where cinema and classical music meet. Under the light of thousands of candles, the scores of The Wizard of Oz will come to life in an intimate and majestic setting thanks to The Wizard of Oz: A Classical Concert, which will arrive on January 30 with tickets already on sale.
More than eight decades have passed since Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man embarked on their journey across the yellow tiles. Since then, their songs have earned an eternal place in the history of cinema and now they will thrill us again with a concert that seeks to take us, once again, “beyond the rainbow”.
Candlelight: The Wizard of Oz – A Classic Concert
In The Wizard of Oz, the story cannot be understood without its music. Every scene, from Dorothy’s arrival in the Land of Oz to the encounters with her fellow travelers, is guided by melodies that have become impossible to separate from the plot. Because yes, the poppy fields and the colorful little town of Munchkinland are part of everyone’s imagination, but also its tunes like “Over the Rainbow”, “We’re Off to See the Wizard” or “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” continue to resonate in the collective memory, reminding us why this soundtrack turned the film into a cinema classic.
And now, Candlelight brings that soundtrack to Barcelona in a 60-minute concert performed by a string quartet and surrounded by thousands of candles. A different way to feel the magic of The Wizard of Oz again, this time through live music. You won’t need a tornado to get carried away: just listen to the first notes.
As for the costumes, there are no rules: you can come as elegant or as original as you want. If you feel like paying tribute to The Wizard of Oz, bring out your red shoes or a touch of emerald and join the magic.
The concert lasts approximately 60 minutes and doors open 45 minutes before. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis within each area and entry is not permitted once the show has begun, so it’s a good idea to arrive a little early.
