It will be rare to see, but soon the Portal del Àngel will not only be a bustle of shopping bags and teenagers doing tik tok dances, but also of white coats and neighbors of the Gòtic neighborhood (that some are left) who will take consultation to the most commercial street of Barcelona.
It will be thanks to the new CAP of the Gòtic, whose construction has just been approved in the building located in the Plaza de Carles Pi i Sunyer, in the middle of the Portal del Àngel, thanks to the Special Urban Plan (PEU) that will allow the adaptation of the space, which is currently used for municipal offices.
This new CAP aims to improve the building’s accessibility and sustainability, applying energy efficiency criteria and guaranteeing its public ownership. In addition, the space will be able to accommodate other complementary uses such as teaching, assistance, administrative and socio-cultural activities.
The City Council affirms that this new CAP will improve the current needs of the neighbors, and that the City Council is also working on the expansion of the primary care network in other parts of Ciutat Vella, such as the new CAP of Raval in the old chapel of Misericòrdia or the conversion of the old Clínica Barceloneta into the new CAP Barceloneta, after the transfer of the building to the Generalitat.
These projects are part of the agreements reached at the bilateral meeting of October 2023 between the City Council and the Generalitat, where the creation of 11 new primary care centers in the city was established to strengthen public health in Barcelona.
