FC Barcelona is enjoying one of its best moments in recent years. The recent league title, star signings, and an unstoppable start to the season have cemented the team as one of the top contenders for every title. And as the saying goes: “Good news never comes alone,” especially this morning, when UEFA announced that Spotify Camp Nou will host the Champions League final in 2029.
A final whose date has already been set: June 2, 2029, the day the city will be decked out in the colors of the two finalist teams (perhaps one of them being the host itself). The UEFA Executive Committee has chosen Barça’s stadium, among other reasons, because the renovation work will have been completed and the venue will have a capacity of 105,000 spectators.
If the schedule is met, the third tier of the stands and the roof will be fully installed by early 2028, at which point Camp Nou will become “one of the best stadiums in the world” in terms of both capacity and technology.
Barça’s bid was selected over another historic European soccer stadium: Wembley, the venue where FC Barcelona lifted its first and fourth Champions League titles (in 1992 and 2011).
Furthermore, this will be the third Champions League final held at Camp Nou. The Blaugrana stadium hosted the season’s most important match in 1989 and 1999. FC Barcelona did not play in either of those finals—a situation that could change in three years.
