Those who love Christmas romantic comedies usually think of London or New York, imagining snowy streets, Christmas trees the size of buildings and declarations of love under a perfectly placed mistletoe or on the very ice rink at Rockefeller Center. But you don’t have to cross the Atlantic to find a movie set: Barcelona also has its own.
And the best proof is in Barcelona, nit d’hivern, which many consider the “Barcelona Love Actually”. A film shot and set 100% in the city, which travels through some of its most emblematic neighborhoods through stories that intersect during the night of Epiphany.

Barcelona, nit d’hivern hit theaters in 2015 and ended up becoming the most watched Catalan-language film of that year. It is directed by Dani de la Orden —who would later sign such popular comedies as Hasta que la boda nos separe or Mamá o Papá— and features a cast full of familiar faces, such as Alexandra Jiménez, Miki Esparbé, David Guapo or Berto Romero.
As for locations, the film moves through the Raval, the Gòtic and even the airport of El Prat to follow the protagonists. Romances, family confessions and unexpected visits during the night of January 5 that you have available on Netflix and Filmin.
The soundtrack is signed by Joan Dausà and includes fourteen songs, including Nit de Reis, La carta and Que plogui. They are songs that accompany the different stories of the film and can be listened to on YouTube or Spotify.
And speaking of music, those who want to continue with that Christmas spirit can do so with a concert of Christmas soundtracks in Barcelona on December 19. A live recital that revives pieces from Polar Express, Home Alone or The Grinch among thousands of candles.
