The Montjuïc funicular, in Barcelona, will suspend its service from October 20 for five months due to works in the water collector of Vila i Vilà street, executed by the Barcelona City Council in the framework of the Pla Clima (Climate Plan).
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has informed that it will provide a shuttle bus service to cover the affected route.
The works require the demolition and reconstruction of a section of the access corridor to the funicular from the Paral-lel metro station (L2 and L3), which makes it unfeasible for passengers to use it, according to TMB’s press release.
The municipal company will take advantage of this mandatory stop to also carry out annual maintenance work on the installation.
Transportation alternatives

To replace the service, a shuttle bus will connect the two funicular stations with the same operating hours: Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on weekends and holidays, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m..
The frequency will be 7-8 minutes on weekday mornings and 10-12 minutes in the afternoons and on holidays.
As an alternative, TMB also recommends the use of the regular bus line 150, which connects Plaça Espanya with Castell de Montjuïc. The works will also cause changes in the route of the neighborhood bus 121.
Instead of going down Nou de la Rambla to Paral-lel, it will go along Passeig de Montjuïc and Palaudàries, to resume its usual route along Paral-lel and Puig i Xoriguer, where it has its origin and destination station, to go back down Palaudàries and take Paral-lel in the direction of the mountain to continue the route towards Ronda de Sant Pau.
