Times change, and with them, so do our tastes, customs, and even the way we celebrate festivals. In 2023, Barcelona included the drone show in its La Mercè festival program for the first time, and since then it has become one of the most anticipated events during the city’s festival days.
This year, we’ll once again experience it live on Thursday, September 24, at the Espigó del Gas. And so that no one misses it, there will be two 20-minute shows: at 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Plus, this year’s free show will be bigger than ever: 750 drones will light up the Barcelona coastline, compared to 500 in the last edition.
The company Flock Drone Art—responsible for previous drone shows at La Mercè and the spectacle at the Sagrada Familia during Pope Leo XIV’s visit—will once again be at the helm for this edition, titled “The Red Thread: From Barcelona to Shanghai” and dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the sister city relationship with the Asian city, which is this year’s special guest at Barcelona’s festivities.
Symbols and distinctive elements of Catalan and Chinese culture will intertwine in the sky to represent the bond between the two cities. The show will take off from the Espigó del Gas, but it will be visible from almost anywhere along the Paseo Marítimo.
