It’s a virtual reality experience that invites us to relive the first expedition to the world’s highest peak. Even before its world premiere, this production has already received strong critical acclaim: EVEREST, The First Ascent has been selected to compete in Venice Immersive, the section dedicated to immersive works at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, which takes place in the Italian city from September 2 to 12.

What to Expect from EVEREST, The First Ascent
EVEREST, The First Ascent takes us back to 1952, the year Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first to reach the summit of Everest. We’ll join them on the journey—an unprecedented expedition experienced firsthand thanks to virtual reality.
All we’ll need for this journey is a pair of VR goggles with a built-in sound system. The experience will take us from remote villages to Buddhist monasteries, through the streets of Kathmandu and across the breathtaking snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas—in other words, through all the places Hillary and Norgay visited on their way to the summit of Everest, at an altitude of no less than 8,849 meters.
Just like the original journey, the path to the summit won’t be easy: during our virtual expedition, we’ll face inclement weather, overcome obstacles in hostile terrain, and tackle other challenges. But rest assured, the effort will be worth it when we finally get to see some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet.
EVEREST: The First Ascent joins the ECLIPSO Barcelona family, a center that already hosts other immersive experiences such as the space odyssey *Space Explorers: The ISS Experience*, set inside the International Space Station. Its blend of fun and education makes it perfect for all audiences, though it’s especially recommended for children ages 8 and up.
