Barcelona is preparing to reach a new milestone in its history: hosting the legendary Grand Départ of the Tour de France, as well as the competition’s first time trial stage. But before the official start, the capital will host a Fan Zone where you can ride like the pros—and, while you’re at it, take home exclusive gifts.
From July 2 to 5, the Moll de la Barceloneta will become the epicenter of cycling culture with the arrival of the Lidl-Trek Fresh Zone: a space spanning more than 300 m² designed for enjoying the sport and mindful eating. Admission to the event will be completely free, and the program is designed for all ages. Ready to check it out?
Challenge Area: the most interactive space in the Fresh Zone
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to experience the French Grand Tour from the inside, this is the perfect place to find out. Through three interactive challenges, you’ll be able to put yourself to the test on the pedals and finally figure out what your cycling profile is:
- Time Trialist: Speed is key here. You’ll have to give it your all and pedal as fast as you can to cover 500 meters in the shortest time possible.
- Climber: Strapped into a climbing roller, you’ll have to prove your endurance against the incline and see how far you can go before throwing in the towel.
- Sprinter: 20 seconds of maximum intensity. How far will you be able to go?
And after all that effort, a well-deserved reward. Because at the Lidl-Trek Fresh Zone, just for completing one of the challenges, you can stop by the “Riders Bar” for a refreshing, freshly made fruit smoothie.
In addition, the space features a drive-thru window so that those riding along the boardwalk can order their milkshake directly without getting off their bikes.
A relaxation area, children’s activities, and conversations overlooking the sea
Kids will also have their own competition area in the Lidl-Trek Fresh Zone, featuring an elevated circuit inspired by slot car tracks. The catch? There are no electric controls here—they’ll have to generate the movement by pedaling. It’s a perfect and super-fun way to encourage an active lifestyle from a young age.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed activity or simply want to get out of the sun after a morning at the beach, the Chill Out Zone is the place for you. This space will host talks and discussions for the whole family: from the “Design the Lidl-Trek Jersey” drawing contest to tips from cycling experts.
