The Sant Jordi celebration in Barcelona will present a completely new look in 2026. The renovation work currently underway on La Rambla will prevent the traditional book and flower stalls from being set up in this area.
The progress of the renovation work has put an end to the truce that occurred last year, when the festival remained on the boulevard despite the restrictions.
This time, the scale of the urban redevelopment project has necessitated the creation of an alternative route that will connect the Eixample’s literary superblock with the historic center.
A new route through the city center
The City Council and professional associations have agreed to relocate the event to the area between Portal de l’Àngel and Plaça de Catalunya.
The logistics plan calls for the flower stalls to be temporarily located in Plaça de Catalunya. Meanwhile, the book fair will extend from Passeig de Gràcia and Rambla de Catalunya toward Avinguda de la Catedral and Passeig de Lluís Companys. This measure aims to maintain the flow of pedestrian traffic and prevent crowds in areas affected by construction machinery.
The president of the Florists’ Guild, Joan Guillén, has confirmed acceptance of this change of location, though he noted the symbolic importance of La Rambla for the sector. Organizations involved in the festival have expressed their confidence that the event will return to its original route for the 2027 edition.
Likewise, despite the changes to the public space, the sector expects the event to achieve very high participation and sales figures. Authorities have noted that similar situations occurred during the pandemic or in editions with capacity restrictions, circumstances that did not deter citizens from visiting the alternative sales points.
