Barcelona is not a city that is content with just being the setting for a gala. When it’s our turn to host the Goya Awards, we do it in style, taking cinema off the screens and bringing it directly to the neighborhoods. The official event at the Centre de Convencions Internacionals de Barcelona (CCIB) is the grand finale, but throughout February, the Catalan capital becomes a huge film set where anyone can feel like they’re part of the Academy.
A stroll among giant statuettes and local stars
If you’re walking around Glòries these days and feel like you’re being watched by familiar faces, it’s not your imagination. The Plaza de les Glòries is hosting a large-scale exhibition that pays tribute to the Catalan talent that has made history at the Goyas, from Isabel Coixet and J.A. Bayona to faces such as Carla Simón and David Verdaguer. There are more than sixty images that summarize decades of our audiovisual culture and coexist with one of this year’s most striking installations: the colossal statuettes.
- From February 10 to March 1: Seven monumental sculptures of the Goya are installed at key locations such as the Fòrum, the Jardinets de Gràcia, Fabra i Coats, Portal de la Pau, Barceloneta, Plaza de Sant Jaume, and the MNAC.
- Until March 1: Urban exhibition in Glòries that explores Catalan talent linked to the history of the awards.
- February 16 to 28: The City Hall carriage courtyard will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. so you can take a photo at the official photocall with a real Goya award.

One of the highlights of this edition is the presence of Susan Sarandon, who will receive the 2026 International Goya Award. The best thing is that the actress from Thelma & Louise will not just be collecting the award; her schedule in Barcelona includes direct contact with film lovers. In addition, music will play a fundamental role with a special concert that will review the soundtracks that are already part of our collective memory, all at affordable prices so that no one is left out.
- February 22: Concert by the Barcelona Municipal Band at L’Auditori (6:00 p.m.) with Victoria Luengo as master of ceremonies. The price is only 10 euros.
- February 27: Meeting with Susan Sarandon at 1:00 p.m., where the Oscar-winning actress will review her career before receiving the international award the following day. The venue is still to be confirmed.
- Various dates in February: The Academy will record a live audio drama, Remando al viento, at the Palau de la Música, a tribute to the 2026 Goya of Honor, Gonzalo Suárez.
Movies in theaters and face-to-face with the nominees
For those who prefer the darkness of the theater, the Filmoteca de Cataluña and venues such as the Born CCM become the nominees’ headquarters. It’s not just about watching the films, but also about being able to ask directors and actors how they work their magic behind the camera. The sessions are designed to encourage viewers to stop being passive subjects and join in the cinematic debate.
- February 12: Screening of Estrany Riu at the Filmoteca (9:00 p.m.) with the technical and artistic team in attendance.
- February 13: Screening of Sorda, nominated for Best Film, followed by a discussion with its creators at the Filmoteca (8:00 p.m.).
- February 20: Screening of Sirât by Oliver Laxe at the Filmoteca (8:00 p.m.), another of the big favorites, which will include a meeting with the audience.
- February 21: Special screening of La piel del agua, nominated for Best Ibero-American Film, at 9:00 p.m.
