Barcelona will become the epicenter of the seventh arton February 28, when the Goya Awardsceremony takes place . The city is already breathing cinema through a special program that includes everything from outdoor photo exhibitions to the chance to have your picture taken with the official trophy.
The 2026 Goya Awards ceremony in Barcelona: when and where it will be held
The gala ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 28, at the Barcelona International Convention Center (CCIB). This 40th edition will mark a historic milestone by moving the red carpet to Barcelona, where a total of 28 statuettes will be awarded to the best productions of the past year.

The president of the Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, emphasized that this edition seeks to make Barcelona “proud” to be the host. For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Xavier Marcé, stressed that the gala will promote new opportunities for the Catalan sector, which contributes “talent, risk, and linguistic polyphony” to Spanish cinema as a whole.
Giant statuettes and photos with the Goya
Until March 1,the Parc de les Glòries will host a free exhibition reviewing the milestones of Catalan performers in the history of the awards. In addition, the City Council will set up an official photo point between February 16 and 18. In this space, citizens will be able to see an authentic statuette up close in the morning and afternoon.
The awards will be brought to the neighborhoods in the form of large-scale replicas. Starting on February10, these sculptures will appear in iconic locations such as the Jardinets de Gràcia, the MNAC, the Forum, and the Plaza de Sant Jaume, where they will remain on display until the end of the month.
- February 10 to March 1: Seven monumental sculptures of the Goya will be installed at key locations such as the Forum, the Jardinets de Gràcia, Fabra i Coats, Portal de la Pau, Barceloneta, Plaza de Sant Jaume, and the MNAC.
- Until March 1: Urban exhibition in Glòries showcasing Catalan talent linked to the history of the awards.
- February 16 to 28: The City Hall carriage courtyard will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. so you can take a photo at the official photocall with a real Goya award.
Film music for ten euros
L’Auditori de Barcelona will reserve its stage on Sunday , February 22, for a recital that will pay tribute to the best soundtracks in Spanish cinema. The event, with tickets priced at €10, will feature actress Victoria Luengo as the host of a gala that will review historical compositions, from the scores of Antón García Abril to pieces from recent films such as El 47.
The Palau de la Música Catalana will host a special event on February 26 . Before a discussion with the audience, director Gonzalo Suárez (Goya de Honor 2026) will supervise the live recording of the audio fiction of his film Remando al viento. Actors Miki Esparbé, Fernando Cayo, and Víctor Clavijo will lend their voices to this joint initiative with Radio Nacional de España and the Generalitat.
- February 22: Concert by the Barcelona Municipal Band at L’Auditori (6:00 p.m.) with Victoria Luengo as master of ceremonies. The price is only 10 euros.
- Various dates in February: The Academy records the audio drama of Remando al viento live at the Palau de la Música, a tribute to the 2026 Goya de Honor, Gonzalo Suárez.
Talks with Susan Sarandon and Gonzalo Suárez
International talent will have a prominent place with the visit of Susan Sarandon, recognized with the 2026 International Goya Award. The star of Thelma & Louise will hold a discussion with her fans on Friday , February 27, at 1:00 p.m.
Gonzalo Suárez, this year’s Goya of Honor, will chat with the public on February 26 at the Palau de la Música.
The program goes beyond conventional venues. Actress Alba Flores will visit the Wad-Ras Penitentiary on February 13 to screen Flores para Antonio and chat with the inmates. The Academy will also organize special sessions for primary and secondary school students and collaborate with the Horagai project for young people in care, reaffirming cinema’s commitment to education and social integration.
Screenings at reduced prices
During the week leading up to the big film festival, the Filmoteca de Catalunya will offer screenings of the nominated films. The price of these tickets will range from €3 to €4. After viewing films such as Sorda and La cena, attendees will participate in debates with the professionals competing for the award at the gala on the 28th.
- February 12: Screening of Estrany Riu at the Filmoteca (9:00 p.m.) with the technical and artistic team in attendance.
- February 13: Screening of Sorda, nominated for Best Film, followed by a discussion with its creators at the Filmoteca (8:00 p.m.).
- February 20: Screening of Sirât by Oliver Laxe at the Filmoteca (8:00 p.m.), another of the big favorites, which will feature a meeting with the audience.
- February 21: Special screening of La piel del agua, nominated for Best Ibero-American Film, at 9:00 p.m.
