If you too are wondering what happened to La Oreja de Van Gogh, let us tell you a Sweet Madness made of Impossible Things Wishes. Amaia Montero returns to La Oreja de Van Gogh and the wave of emotion, nostalgia and debate in networks has not been long in coming. The announcement of her return —Amaia left the band at the end of 2007— has already accumulated more than 100,000 “likes” on Instagram and tens of thousands of comments ranging from enthusiasm to controversy over the departure of Leire Martinez.
Meanwhile, a tribute concert to the band from San Sebastian is being prepared in Barcelona on December 26, the perfect plan for all those fans who want to relive their first albums at the piano, without crowds and with the happiness of knowing that there is still “oreja” left for a while.
What we know about the return of La Oreja de Van Gogh: members and new song
The announcement came in the form of a video: the band reunited in the studio, Amaia in front of the microphone and, at the bottom of the publication, a sentence that said it all: “Back together in the rehearsal room and feel that everything is still here, that time was waiting for us where we left off“. In a matter of hours, the clip went viral and confirmed what many had been dreaming of for years.
In this new stage, coinciding with their 30th anniversary, Xabi San Martín, Álvaro Fuentes and Haritz Garde will be there, but not Pablo Benegas, who has decided to stay out of the reunion.
There have been no major statements, although in the video a new song can be heard with a phrase that has attracted much attention: “I am the doubt that haunts you when you do not know what to do, won’t it be that you do know, but you have to dare?”
What was the reason behind their split in 2007?
Or rather, “were”. And it is that what was known is that it was an accumulation of circumstances. Amaia clarified at the time that it was not the result of any anger, but rather the result of many years of coexistence and a stage that had been exhausted. She also talked about the wear and tear of that intense exposure, of being “very exposed” when they were young, and how she felt that she no longer fitted in with what she wanted… Until now.
Tribute to La Oreja de Van Gogh in Barcelona with piano and candles
While all this continues to be talked about, fans will be able to relive the first stage of the group in a tribute concert organized by Candlelight. It will be on December 26 at the Real Círculo Artístico, with pianist Mateu Peramiquel interpreting, among thousands of candles, those songs that we all still remember. And tickets are already on sale.
