LUMINISCENCE stops in Barcelona for a limited time after having successfully passed through other European cities such as Paris (Saint-Eustache Church), Nice (Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Basilica), Münster (St. Paulus Cathedral), San Sebastian (Buen Pastor Cathedral) and many more. In all these venues and one more the original show has already conquered more than one million spectators.
LUMINISCENCE, the communion between art and technology
LUMINISCENCE is a tribute to the history and architecture of the basilicas and cathedrals through which it passes and a very entertaining way to learn about art and culture. Its mix of video mapping and music highlights all the architectural corners of these precious temples.
In the case of Barcelona, LUMINISCENCE pays tribute to the basilica of Santa Maria del Pi, a 14th century Catalan Gothic jewel that has survived fires, wars and bombings. Each play of light, color or perspective is an opportunity to (re)discover each vault, pillar or stained glass window of the temple and immerse yourself in its centuries of history.
This sensory experience is magnified by the music, beautiful instrumental melodies that blend the classics with touches of modernity. In addition, on Thursday through Sunday the show features the performance of the Cor Francesc Valls, a professional choir founded in 2003 that will add a layer of spectacularity and emotion to LUMINISCENCE. The excellent acoustics of the basilica will amplify, even more if possible, this sonorous communion.
This perfect blend of music and 360-degree projections is complemented by a narration (in English, Catalan or Spanish depending on the session) that tells the story of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi. Because in addition to being an artistic spectacle, LUMINISCENCE is also a vindication of the history of our city, an enhancement of the architectural jewel that is used as the setting for the show.
It is worth noting that LUMINISCENCE is different in each place where it is experienced. In addition to the narration about the place, the team behind this show adapts the 360º projections to the architecture of each temple, so living it in Barcelona will be a unique and unprecedented experience to date.
