Often, the key to disconnect from the Barcelona routine is just a few kilometers away. This weekend, the metropolitan area of Barcelona is preparing to host one of the most anticipated historical events of the autumn. And we are not talking about Vic or any of the other cool ones near Barcelona, but the Medieval Market of Viladecans .
Less than half an hour from the center of Barcelona, this town will be transformed into a vibrant setting with historical atmosphere, crafts and proposals designed for the enjoyment of all ages. It is a perfect opportunity to change of scenery and soak up history just before the Christmas spirit floods everything.
A city of Baix Llobregat that travels to the 12th century.

Every November, the heart of Viladecans, specifically its Barri Antic and Eixample, becomes the epicenter of this great market. Organized by the Xarxa Comercial de Viladecans with the support of the city council, this event is consolidated year after year as one of the largest and most attractive in the metropolitan area. The site offers an extensive route dotted with craft stalls, corners dedicated to the gastronomy of the period and a continuous succession of traveling shows that transport visitors to the Middle Ages.
The great return to the past is scheduled for November 21, 22 and 23, 2025. The festive atmosphere will kick off on Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the official opening, which traditionally attracts a large number of onlookers.
On Saturday and Sunday, the market will keep its doors open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering more than enough time to take a leisurely stroll through each stall and immerse yourself in the various activities. For those who prefer to avoid large crowds, a visit early in the morning is usually the best option to enjoy the market at your leisure.
A program packed with history, food … and drink.

The program of activities concentrates its most striking proposals during the weekend, focusing on the recreation of trades and, curiously, on historical gastronomy.
On Saturday, November 22, visitors will be able to attend a gastronomic showcooking at 11:30 am, followed by two interesting tasting-talks in the afternoon. At 5 p.m. there will be ‘The liquid legacy of the monks’, an immersion in historical drinks, and at 6 p.m. secrets will be revealed in ‘Witches and healers: the secret before hops’.
On Sunday, November 23, the Showcooking repeats at 11:30 am, and the most brewers have an appointment at 13:00 pm with a demonstration of craft beer brewing in medieval style. In the afternoon, at 17:00 hours, there will be a new opportunity to attend the session of ‘The liquid legacy of the monks’.
Beyond these programmed activities, the medieval spirit is kept alive thanks to the constant parades, the historical setting and demonstrations of ancient crafts. The little ones also have their space guaranteed with a children’s area with storytellers and puppets, while in the Magdalena Modolell Gardens you can visit an authentic medieval camp, which contributes to create a totally immersive atmosphere.
How to get to the largest medieval market near Barcelona?

The proximity to the Catalan capital is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions of the event. The connection is fast and varied, either for those who opt for the car or by public transport.
If you decide to go by car, the journey from the center of Barcelona will take approximately 25 minutes. However, it is important to anticipate that parking in the immediate vicinity can be busy during rush hour.
For those who prefer public transport, the R2 Rodalies line is the most direct option, connecting the city with Viladecans station in about twenty minutes. In addition, intercity bus lines, such as the L80 or the X84, offer alternatives with different stops in the capital. Once in Viladecans, the market route extends through the central streets, allowing easy access on foot from the station or bus stops.
