Barcelona is gearing up for a memorable closing to the La Mercè 2026 festivities. The La Mercè 2026 Fireworks and Music Show is shrouded in mystery and has a touch of a farewell about it, as the music will be provided by Josep Montero, the charismatic leader of the Catalan band Oques Grasses, who has declined to reveal what the final playlist will be.
The main change this year is the shift in location, from the traditional Montjuïc Magic Fountain to Nova Icària Beach, due to construction work at the Fira grounds on Avenida de la Reina María Cristina. The sound-and-light show will be projected from the Bogatell breakwater.
What remains the same is the schedule: on Sunday, September 27, from 10:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., you can enjoy the magical closing of the La Mercè festivities.
On the musical front, Montero will keep his cards close to his chest until the very last second, but he has given a hint of what’s in store: a repertoire he describes as “an eclectic mix, open to diverse styles and sensibilities, with a strong emphasis on music in Catalan.”
For the Catalan musician, this festive commission comes at a time of intense emotions. The Piromusical will serve as a brilliant appetizer just a few days before Oques Grasses embarks on the grand finale of their career: their four highly anticipated farewell concerts. The concerts, which are expected to draw a total of some 220,000 attendees, will take place at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium from October 5 to 10. A tailor-made grand finale before saying goodbye.
