Model train enthusiasts and families have a new reason to travel around Catalonia. The Federació Catalana d’Amics delFerrocarril (Catalan Federation of Railway Friends) is launching the Pasaporte dels TrensPetits, an initiative that rewards travelers who visit different scale model railway facilities throughout Catalonia.
This initiative allows children and adults to ride on real miniature trains. The circuits are located in natural environments and public parks, facilitating a day of outdoor leisure at very affordable prices for all budgets.
How the stamp system works
The mechanism for obtaining the benefits is simple. Users must request their document at any of the participating circuits. When they visit four different facilities, the staff will stamp their passport. Once these four points have been completed, the traveler will receive a free trip on a fifth circuit of their choice.
Those who go further and collect all five stamps will receive a greater reward. These passengers will be automatically entered into a draw for a trip for four people on the Núria rack railway. The campaign will remain in effect until April 30, 2026.
Where to enjoy the experience
The small train network covers municipalities in several provinces. In Barcelona, the trains run in the Parc del Castell de l’Oreneta, while in the metropolitan area, the parks of Can Mercader (Cornellà) and Vallparadís (Terrassa) stand out. Other key points are located in Sabadell, Vilanova i la Geltrú, and El Masnou.
In the Girona region, trains operate in Castell d’Aro and Fornells de la Selva. The province of Tarragona has the Parc del Trenet circuit in Reus.
Timetables and technical recommendations
Most of these scale railways operate on weekends and public holidays. Advance booking is not necessary at almost any venue, although the organizers advise checking the specific timetables for each park before traveling.
As these activities are managed by railway enthusiasts’ associations, the maintenance of the locomotives and carriages follows very strict technical standards, ensuring an authentic experience for users.
