The Port of Barcelona has opened to the public the Moll de Pescadors, a space where visitors can learn about the work of fishermen, as well as witness the live fish auction in the renovated Llotja de Pescadors.
The project, which has involved an investment of approximately 14 million euros so far, has increased the space available to the public in the Port Vell by 2,500 square meters.
With this renovation, visitors will also be able to reach the Torre del Rellotge, the oldest building in the port with more than 250 years of history, listed as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.
The new Llotja de Pescadors, which was renovated in 2024, is now integrated with the rest of the port space. A design that has been awarded the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize for Architecture and Urbanism, by architects Carlos Ferrater, Lucía Ferrater and Jesús Coll.
The Moll de Pescadors now has a new ice factory, water and electricity connections to the dock and the installation of a photovoltaic pergola in the net yard.
In the coming months, a restaurant specializing in Mediterranean cuisine with local products will be opened to complete the gastronomic experience of this space.
In addition, the existing sheds will be refurbished and fitted with solar panels, which will generate 376 MWh of renewable energy per year, and a new green point will be installed for the management of waste from fishing activities, partially financed with European funds.
All these developments will mean that this area of the port of Barcelona will exceed 20 million euros of investment, with the redevelopment of Carrer Escar and the improvement of accesses to the Torre del Rellotge.
Also planned is the implementation of a ferry that will connect the Moll de Pescadors with the Moll d’Espanya, facilitating mobility between the neighborhoods of Barceloneta and Ciutat Vella.
The president of the Port of Barcelona, José Alberto Carbonell, highlighted the importance of this opening: “For a long time, access to the Moll de Pescadors was restricted. Now, citizens can visit the Torre del Rellotge and learn first-hand about the work of the fishermen and the fish auction”.
