Marcel Pascual commissioned the urban artist Dase an emotional tribute to his wife, Pilar Forcada, who passed away in 2021. The result, ‘Life is a flight’, is today a candidate for ‘Best Mural of 2024’, among the best in the world, according to Street Art Cities.
This Catalan mural is located at carrer de Llerona, 5, in La Garriga, near Granollers. The project was born thanks to Jordi Pascual, Pilar’s son, who after the loss of his mother showed Marcel the work of the artist Dase, an experienced urban artist who has already accumulated two nominations for this Street Art Cities award.
The mural, measuring more than 100 m², depicts a surprised child as a butterfly takes flight, an image that symbolizes the fragility and beauty of life. It was painted with sustainable materials such as recyclable aerosols and water-based paints.
Other Catalan works nominated for the award
Along with “Life is a flight”, the list of candidates includes two other Catalan works: Water, also by Dase, on Carrer de Pau Claris (Mollet del Vallès), and a work by Filite on Carrer Barceloneta, 30, in l’Ametlla de Mar (Tarragona).
Both works have water as a central theme, one from a mythological perspective, as is the case of Filite‘s work, and the other from a scathing criticism of the scarcity of natural resources with two women in swimsuits on dry land.
Voting for the best mural of the past year will remain open until January 31, 2025 on the Street Art Cities website.
