Le Barcarés, the mythical Christmas village in the south of France that had become a benchmark for winter getaways from Barcelona, has closed. But don’t worry, because a new Christmas mecca very close by has picked up its baton to give us one of the best possible getaways this Christmas 2025 from Barcelona.
Christmas, or what is the same, the Féeries de Noël, has turned on its switch in Narbonne. Halfway between what we understand as a traditional-style getaway and the spirit of the great French markets, this Occitan city has established itself as the whirlwind destination we need to recover the illusion without spending a fortune or making a transoceanic trip.
Just two hours and a quarter by TGV from Sants, this coastal jewel is transformed every year into a fairy tale. If in Barcelona Secreta we value a good plan for its charm and practicality, Narbona passes with flying colors: it offers the classic Christmas magic and, moreover, is easily accessible for an express weekend (or even a Thursday after-work with festive spirit, as some days the atmosphere is extended until 23:00h).
A walk that smells of cinnamon and mulled wine.

The nerve center of the festival extends along the Quai de la République and the Promenade des Barques. This is where the heart of the Christmas Market is set up . And yes, the atmosphere is as good as it sounds: not only are there craft and decoration stalls, but the air is permeated with the delicious aroma of freshly made crêpe, damp wood and the inevitable mulled wine.
The dates so you don’t miss anything are crucial. The Les Féeries de Noël de Narbonne display is operational from November 29, 2025 to January 4, 2026. It’s the perfect place to sample specialties of the region, from delicious beignets to hearty tartiflette, a potato, reblochon cheese and bacon gratin that fixes your body on any cold night.

Narbonne is not satisfied with just a few well-placed bulbs. The Christmas lighting here is a spectacle in itself, centered on its most iconic monuments, which become the perfect backdrop for your photos (and your feed).
The Town Hall Square, with its monumental tree, is the meeting point par excellence, but the real magic happens at the Archbishops’ Palace. Every evening, the light transforms the Cathedral of St. Justus and St. Shepherd into a canvas. In addition, early risers (or those who are there on key dates) can witness the opening of the life-size Advent Calendar projected on the palace wall, a tradition that is celebrated every day until Christmas Eve. If you’re looking for an even more intense visual spectacle, the Parcours Lumineux, a free light and music show, takes place every evening, ideal for closing the day before returning to the hotel.
The cheapest ice rink

Beyond the stalls and the gastronomic atmosphere, Narbonne is a paradise for family plans, with several attractions scattered throughout the center.
In Cours Mirabeau, the traditional Christmas fair (Fête Foraine) is installed , where the giant Ferris wheel stands out to enjoy panoramic views. But the star plan, without a doubt, is the synthetic skating rink, located on the Promenade des Barques. The best tip? Skating costs only 3 euros per 45-minute session with skates included, a price that we would like to see in Barcelona.
And, of course, you can’t miss a visit to the Santa Claus House, where the little ones (and not so little ones) can deliver their letter and have their picture taken with Père Noël himself. For moments of relaxation, the Palais du Jeus, inside the Archbishop’s Palace, offers a free playroom with board games, an air-conditioned space perfect for children.
How to get to Narbonne from Barcelona
Narbonne is the definition of an “easy getaway”. Although you can go by car (about 2 hours and 30 minutes by AP-7 and A9), the fastest option is the train.
The TGV inOui leaves from Barcelona Sants and drops you in the center of Narbonne in just over 2 hours and 9 minutes, with prices varying depending on the time of arrival (between 21 € and 85 €), and if you decide to drive, the city recommends parking in free parking lots such as Quai Victor Hugo or Théâtre so you can access on foot to the historic center without major complications.
