The streets of Barcelona are preparing to relive the splendor of an era when theforms of nature were transformed into living stone and artisanal detail shaped the urban identity. From May 29 to 31, 2026, the Catalan capital will host the 20th Fira Modernista and Fira del Comerç de Barcelona, a landmark edition that this year focuses on the figure of architect Antoni Gaudí to commemorate the centennial of his death.
The cultural and commercial event will take place on Bruc Street, on the section between Diagonal Avenue and Consell de Cent Street, as well as on the central lane of Diagonal Avenue itself, between Bruc and Girona Streets. Details of this edition were outlined at a preliminary event held at Casa Elizalde by Galdric Santana, the architect curating the Gaudí Year and director of the Gaudí Chair, who introduced the key themes of a program designed to connect the historical legacy with the commercial fabric of the area.
Theater, dance, and children’s activities
This year’s cultural program includes the show *Gaudí, l’arquitecte dels somnis*, a dance and physical theater piece designed to capture the biography and work of the famous architect. The production offers a sensory journey in which physical expression emulates architectural elements, transforming the performers’ movements into representations of breathing stones, soaring arches, growing roots, and the rhythms of the sea.
This performance will share the space and alternate successively with L’Escalier, a playful activity based on imagination and clowning techniques, aimed especially at children.
As part of the new features of this 20th edition, themed itineraries led by professionals specializing in the field will be incorporated. Theseoutdoor routes will wind through the area surrounding the fairgrounds and will focus specifically on artistic disciplines of the era such as sgraffito, ceramics, wrought iron, and stonework.
In addition, attendees will be able to witness, for the first time, live demonstrations of traditional crafts that have fallen into disuse. On this occasion, a blacksmith and a tinsmith will provide hands-on demonstrations of the methodologies and technical processes that characterized these trades during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Local commerce and leisure spaces
The commercial hub of the event will consist of craft stalls and spaces dedicated to shops and professionals affiliated with the Eixample association. With the aim of encouraging visitors to stay longer, the fair will feature designated picnic areas.
At the same time, a main stage will be set up, featuring a continuous program of activities throughout the three days, including live musical performances, a variety of cultural exhibitions, and children’s workshops.
