After weeks of rumors about who would occupy the emblematic FNAC store in El Triangle, in the heart of Plaça de Catalunya, the answer has been given: it will not be a fashion superstore or a flagship store of Shein or Inditex. The baton will be taken over by MediaMarkt, which will open a 6,500-square-meter store in summer 2026, focused on offering an immersive technological experience.
The company has announced that it will invest 7.5 million euros in the project and that the new store will generate more than 50 new hires. The goal: for this new space to become MediaMarkt’s second “lighthouse” in Spain, a flagship store concept that goes beyond traditional retail.
Technology for testing and experimenting
Instead of shelves full of discs, books or cultural merchandising, the new store will house a showroom of the main technology brands on the market. According to the company, it is “an immersive experience in technology, through exclusive stores”, where customers will be able to try products, receive specialized advice and experience first-hand the latest innovations in the sector.
MediaMarkt has chosen Barcelona for this project because of its “combination of international projection, local life and concentration of technological talent”. With this move, the chain reinforces its commitment to physical spaces as centers of experience at a time when digital commerce continues to grow.
