During the next few weeks, the district of Nou Barris, especially the North Zone, will be transformed into a great urban art laboratory. Local and international artists will fill streets, facades and squares with 17 large-format works that will be painted or built directly in the public space.
The project, christened NOU Sentit Urbà, seeks to bring contemporary art to neighborhoods that, until now, have not been part of the city’s cultural imaginary. The pictorial, sculptural and luminous pieces will turn Nou Barris into an open-air artistic journey where the neighborhood will also be the protagonist of the creative process.
Which artists are participating?
The participating artists include names from various countries and very different styles:
- Jay Kaes (UK), with a mural about sport as a tool for cohesion in Via Favència.
- Doa Oa (Spain), who will claim environmentalism and cultural heritage in Fabra i Puig.
- Udatxo (Azkoitia), who will pay tribute to the women of the Trinitat, and especially to Matilde Climent, a symbol of social struggle.
- Mariana Santos (Portugal), with a work dedicated to the elderly, or Sshhozzy (Russia), specialized in 3D optical illusions.
