17 giant free outdoor artworks in Nou Barris: where they are and how to visit this street museum

During the next few weeks, the district of Nou Barris, especially the North Zone, will be transformed into a great urban art laboratory. Local and international artists will fill streets, facades and squares with 17 large-format works that will be painted or built directly in the public space.

The project, christened NOU Sentit Urbà, seeks to bring contemporary art to neighborhoods that, until now, have not been part of the city’s cultural imaginary. The pictorial, sculptural and luminous pieces will turn Nou Barris into an open-air artistic journey where the neighborhood will also be the protagonist of the creative process.

Which artists are participating?

The participating artists include names from various countries and very different styles:

• Jay Kaes (UK), with a mural about sport as a tool for cohesion in Via Favència.
• Doa Oa (Spain), who will claim environmentalism and cultural heritage in Fabra i Puig.
• Udatxo (Azkoitia), who will pay tribute to the women of the Trinitat, and especially to Matilde Climent, a symbol of social struggle.
• Mariana Santos (Portugal), with a work dedicated to the elderly, or Sshhozzy (Russia), specialized in 3D optical illusions.

The 17 works are divided into murals, sculptures, light works and interventions in educational centers.

Murals

1. Via Favència, 230 → Jay Kaes (United Kingdom)
   Theme: sport as a tool for cohesion.

2. Via Favència, 224 → Dima Korma (Ukraine)
   Theme: dialogue between color, form and environment.

3. Paseo Fabra i Puig, 370 → Doa Oa (Spain)
   Theme: environmentalism and cultural heritage; “reforesting” urban space.

4. Calle Aiguablava, 7 → Udatxo (Spain, Azkoitia)
   Theme: homage to the women of the Trinitat and Matilde Climent.

5. Platja d’Aro Street, 23 → Mariana Santos (Portugal).
   Theme: tribute to the elderly, memory and collective identity.

6. Platja d’Aro Street, 19 → Sshhozzy (Russia).
   Theme: memory through optical illusions in 3D painting.

Sculptures

1. 19 Castellví Street, 19 → Antoine Guignard (France)
   Theme: expressive portrait in wood, homage to Carme Vila.

2. Salvador Puig Antich Square → Todo x la Praxis (collective)
   Theme: collaborative practices in public space and neighborhood memory.

3. Via Favència → Octavi Serra (Barcelona)
   Work: Atenció: zone in process of touristification.
   Theme: critique of mass tourism and urban reflection.

4. Via Favència → Basurama (collective founded in 2001).
   Theme: art and reflection on waste and productive processes.

Light works

1. Biblioteca de Nou Barris (Plaça Major de Nou Barris) → Spidertag
   Theme: interactive neon work with the public.

2. Centre Esportiu Municipal Turó (street Sant Iscle, 50) → Basurama
   Work: Llum en moviment – simulates the beating of a heart.
