The smallest village in Catalonia, with just 25 residents, will host a performance featuring two grand pianos on August 8. A day later, a livestock farm in Soler de n’Hug will be transformed into a musical stage for one night. These are the next two stops on the Perifèria Cultural tour, the series dedicated to culture, local heritage, and gastronomy that, since 2021, has been bringing artistic performances to areas far from major urban centers.
Two Pianos and 25 Residents in Sant Jaume de Frontanyà
Sant Jaume de Frontanyà will host the show “Pianant,” starring composers Manel Camp and Carles Cases, two figures with parallel careers—both served as arrangers and musical directors for Lluís Llach at different times—who are coming together for the first time in a joint piano project.
The event will also feature Abril Ndjel, a 23-year-old singer making her solo debut with a unique artistic vision rooted in her Cameroonian and Mediterranean heritage, blending R&B and soft-electronic compositions. Rounding out the program are Mateu Xurí and Maribel Servera, leading figures in Mallorcan glosa and improvised singing with heptasyllabic verses.
The artistic performance will be complemented by cuisine prepared by chef Eduard Finestres, featuring sustainable, locally sourced ingredients and beef from cattle ranchers in the Berguedà mountains.
A livestock farm as a stage in Soler de n’Hug
On August 9, the series will move to Soler de n’Hug, where *Sons d’un país* will return to a unique setting: a livestock farm dedicated to raising lamb, pork, and veal—a diversified model that is uncommon in Catalonia. Siblings Alba Careta and Santi Careta will lead an musical journey ranging from the sardana of the Empordà to the songs of the Pyrenees, including the *nova cançó* and contemporary pop.
They will be followed by Valencian musician Miquel Gil, a founding member of Al Tall and a leading figure in Mediterranean roots music, alongside the Mallorcan glosa performance by Mateu Xurí and Maribel Servera. “Any town, no matter how small, deserves to enjoy artistic experiences with the same ambition and quality as any major city,” says Francesc Ribera “Titot, ” artistic director of Perifèria Cultural.
