The torrential rainstorm battering the Barcelona metropolitan area is already affecting some entrances and public transit networks, causing incidents, delays, and partial service disruptions.
Water leaks, flooded entrances, and standing water on the tracks are causing significant partial service disruptions on some Metro lines, as well as delays on Rodalies de Catalunya.
Major disruptions on the Metro network
The infrastructure of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is among the hardest hit:
- Line L4 remains closed along its central section and is operating only partially between La Pau and Verdaguer. Shuttle buses have been deployed to cover the affected stretch between Verdaguer and Trinitat Nova. In any case, as an alternative, TMB recommends taking the D50 bus line.
- Meanwhile, Line L1 is only operating between Can Cuiàs and Ciutat Meridiana, and although trains are still running, the central platform at Fabra i Puig station remains out of service.
- Operational issues and significant delays are being reported due to water leaks on lines L10 Nord and L11.
Delays on Rodalies and traffic congestion on the ring roads
The Rodalies de Catalunya network is experiencing average delays of more than 20 minutes due to water accumulation on the tracks, with notable service interruptions on key sections such as the Sant Andreu and Montcada segments on lines R2 and R11.
On the surface, city and intercity bus services are being rerouted. Water accumulation on major roads such as the Ronda de Dalt and the Ronda Litoral is causing kilometer-long traffic jams on the approaches to Barcelona. Authorities recommend checking the official TMB and Rodalies channels before setting out on any trip.
