The Government of Catalonia will launch the application process next week for rental subsidies intended for people between the ages of 36 and 64. This call for applications, resulting from a budget agreement, will have a significantly increased budget allocation aimed at preventing housing exclusion among the population that requires public support to maintain their primary residence.
Citizens may submit applications until April 30, 2026. The increased funding will enable approximately 40,000 new households to receive this benefit, which will be adjusted according to each tenant’s financial burden.
New income and price thresholds
One of the main changes in the resolution is the increase in the income limit. From now on, the cap will be set at four times the Catalonia Sufficiency Income Indicator (IRSC), a figure equivalent to 36,279.32 euros per year.
Regarding the amount of rent that can be subsidized, the regulations have established new maximum limits based on the geographic location of the residence:
- Barcelona metropolitan area: The maximum monthly rent has risen to 1,000 euros.
- Rest of the province of Barcelona: The limit has been set at 750 euros.
- Provinces of Girona and Tarragona: The caps of 750 and 700 euros, respectively, will remain in place.
- Lleida and Terres de l’Ebre: The cap will remain at 600 euros.
Protection for specific groups
The Catalan government has established special conditions for large families, single-parent families, or families with members who have a recognized disability. In these cases, the maximum eligible rent will be 1,100 euros in the metropolitan area and 900 euros in the rest of the region.
The monthly benefit amount will range from a minimum of 50 euros to a maximum of 200 euros. Applications can be submitted online through the Generalitat’s website or in person at official service centers.
How to apply for rental assistance
Beneficiaries will have two options for submitting their applications. The administration will make the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Trámites website available for online processing. Additionally, those who prefer in-person submission may visit the official offices specified in the call for applications.
