Kneeling on the floor and praying before the liquor of a sort of “rock shaman.” Such is the peculiar ritual that has been taking place for seven years at Celler Panotxa, a bar in the Clot neighborhood that has transformed the tradition of going out for vermouth into a deeply immersive rock experience.
A rock museum with two-meter-tall tap handles
Aesthetically, the venue is a true sanctuary for fans of the genre. Among its eclectic decor, you’ll find relics as diverse as authentic helmets from the Barcelona Fire Department, albums by legendary bands like Los Mojinos Escozíos, or bottles of wine that are unique both in appearance and exclusivity.
Plus, the floor is decorated with images of historic bands and concerts, so you’re literally walking on top of true music legends. The menu is designed to look like a tombstone, and the beer tap is a spectacular two-meter-tall electric guitar.
XXL sobrasada and pringá buns
The food menu is just as over-the-top as the decor. They serve up enormous 40-centimeter-long slices of toast, such as the version topped with sobrasada, which costs 20 euros each. The bar offers both classic dishes and bites that are harder to find at other spots in the city, like traditional molletes stuffed with pringá.
The selection of dishes to share is rounded out by a wide variety of hearty dishes and tapas—some original, others more classic. They serve traditional Olot potatoes, stuffed with meat and accompanied by salsa brava, as well as portions of cecina, razor clams, and smoked sardines on toasted bread with fish roe.
In short, it’s a space where great food, rock music, decor that’s eccentric to say the least, and a special “good vibes” atmosphere come together to make every visit unique and fun.
