
The richest municipality in Catalonia is not Barcelona. In fact, it has barely 20,000 inhabitants, but it is very close to the Catalan capital. According to the latest data from Idescat, the Statistical Institute of Catalonia, published in April 2025 (but with data from 2022), the inhabitants of this town earned on average 30,352 euros per year.
We are talking about Sant Just Desvern, one of the favorite localities of the celebrities of the Catalan scene, and which is above 50% of the Catalan average in disposable income.
According to El Español, personalities such as José Montilla, former president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Antoni Brufau, president of Repsol, FC Barcelona players , or Anna Bofill, architect together with her brother Ricardo of Walden 7, where she has lived for more than 30 years and which has become an architectural symbol of the municipality.
Sant Just Desvern is a municipality where executives, businessmen, sportsmen and diplomats have taken up residence, and where single-family buildings predominate in many areas.
How much does it cost to rent in Sant Just Desvern?
According to data from Idealista as of May 29, 2025, there are currently only 24 properties for rent, mostly single-family homes, with an average rent of around 5,200 euros per month.
This, combined with the discretion and tranquility of living on the outskirts of the city, and its proximity to FC Barcelona’s training grounds, have made it the destination for Barcelona’s high rents.
The average and the lowest income in Catalonia
To get a better idea of the exclusivity and high level of this locality, the income per capita in Catalonia was 19,140 euros in 2022, 11,000 euros less than that declared in Sant Just Desvern. This locality of Barcelona is closely followed by Matadepera (29,265 euros).
At the other extreme Montferrer and Castellbò and Lloret de Mar were the municipalities with less income per inhabitant (12,421 euros and 12,941 euros, respectively).
