One of the most awaited moments for Barcelona readers is approaching, La Setmana del Llibre en Català 2024 is back, although it is known simply as La Setmana. It is the largest literary event, exclusively in Catalan, in Catalonia (and we suppose in the world!).
For 10 days, from September 20 to 29, readers of all tastes and ages will gather to stroll among the booths of the almost 250 publishers participating in La Setmana. There you can find all kinds of books, from science fiction to children’s and young adult literature, including Victorian novels, which are now more fashionable than ever!
This year, because of the America’s Cup Sailing, La Setmana 2024 will not be held as before in the Moll de la Fusta, but will move to Passeig Lluis Companys and will occupy a space of 8,000 square meters.
In this great book fair in Catalan there are scheduled more than 300 activities between book signings, family workshops, talks and literary routes. So whatever your tastes, you’re sure to find something perfect for you.
As we know that among so many proposals it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, we leave you our recommendations of activities for La Setmana del Llibre en Català 2024.

L’Arannà, a concert inspired by Mercè Rodoreda
Lara Magrinyà and Anna Sala present their first album, which is inspired by the writer Mercè Rodoreda. The artists have selected parts of her stories and novels and have given music to the stories.
The music that will be played mixes electronic sounds with fragments coming from the classical tradition. The concert can be seen on Stage 1 on September 21 at 21:30.
What would the 10 commandments be like today?
The publishing house Fragmenta has created a new collection called “Deu manaments”. To make it, ten Catalan cultural, literary and philosophical personalities have been commissioned to reinterpret one of the 10 biblical commandments from a contemporary perspective.
This is a collection of essays that aims to highlight the richness of Catalan philosophical thought, making it accessible to anyone who wants it. During La Setmana del Llibre en Català 2024, five of the ten authors and the editor will talk about the problems they have had to make this modern rereading of the Bible.
One of the things that makes this collection unique, is that it is not made from religious dogma, but the authors have different positions on religion. This is therefore an interpretive and artistic act.
