The history of tapas is more interesting than a simple Russian salad can promise. Since its expansion thanks to the arrival of Andalusian migrants, bars like the one we point out today did just that at the beginning of the 21st century: elevating the classic tapas to become the iconic dish of the city.
That’s probably why last week’s Joc de Cartes dedicated its 14th chapter of the eighth season to Barcelona’s tapas bars, going out in search of the restaurants that best represent the essence of Barcelona’s way of eating.
The winner of this edition was Tapas24, located at 269 Diputación street, has been chosen as the best tapas bar in the city, and tapas bar of Carles Abellán, one of the first chefs who turned the tapa into a gourmet dish.

In addition to the recognition as best tapas establishment, Tapas24 has also won the award for best dish of the 2024 season of the program thanks to its iconic truffled biquini (10.9€). This dish, made with Iberian ham, mozzarella and truffle, is a creation of renowned chef Carles Abellan. According to him, the restaurant is “a tribute to our tapas, first those of Barcelona, then the Catalan ones and finally those from all over the country. A space where popular and traditional gastronomy is celebrated as a social event”.
The other participating restaurants were Tipo Tapa, Ziryab and Punta Cana Higüey, none of which stood out excessively.
The truffle bikini is an example of what we mentioned, Tapas 24’s intention to turn classic tapas into a dish of another height. In addition, the restaurant serves other classics such as the ensaladilla rusa (8.5€), awarded as the best in Spain in 2019, its fideus a la cassola and classic desserts such as pa amb xocolata i oli or cheesecake.
