Barcelona awards the final phase of the Sant Antoni renovation for 2026. The city council has awarded the contracts for the urban renovation of Plaça Borrell and the corridor formed by Ronda Sant Pau and Viladomat on one side and Manso and Aldana on the other in Sant Antoni.
The companies MiJ Grúas and Voltes Connecta will carry out the work, which will cost a total of nearly 7.6 million euros.
A car-free square

The project will cover a total area of 13,500 square meters and eliminate the height differences between the sidewalks and the roadway to create a single pedestrian platform at the intersection of Comte Borrell and Parlament streets. This is what is already known in Barcelona as a “superblock.”
The street design will incorporate more greenery, recreational areas, and new street furniture.
The focus of the project will be the creation of a large plaza that will confine the large flower beds to the corners and the central axis.
This layout will ensure adequate sunlight and facilitate the maintenance of plant species. The flooring in the pedestrian areas will be made of tiles.
Vehicles will only be able to travel along a side street and will not be allowed to cross the square. Traffic will be restricted to Carrer Parlament.
12 months of construction

The project will take one year to complete. According to the official schedule, construction will begin during the second quarter of 2026.
The construction company MiJ Grúas will carry out the transformation of the main square and three sections of the green axis for 5.9 million euros. For its part, Voltes Connecta will be responsible for two other sections with a budget of exactly 1,688,665 euros.
