There’s one thing that always happens at Primavera Sound. You arrive with a plan, your lineup marked , your schedule optimized as if you were about to do an Ironman, and twenty minutes later you’re already lost in the crowd wondering where to get something to eat that isn’t a soulless American burger. Where’s the local cuisine?
This year there’s a solution. And it’s hidden beneath the ramp leading to the Schwarzkopf and Cupra stages—a hidden gem making its debut this year that’s well worth stopping by to rest.
The space that doesn’t look like a space
The first thing that catches your eye is the structure. Fever, in collaboration with the creative collective NAKED SPACE, has built a large-scale inflatable installation that looks like something out of a science fiction movie. NAKED SPACE works with ephemeral forms that transform the environment without imposing anything on it, and it shows. Minimalism reigns. A space that breathes, that has curves, and that has an organic quality you wouldn’t expect to find at a festival of this scale.
Inside, there are headphones hanging from the ceiling. Put them on and you can listen to any stage at the festival in real time— all at once if you want—right there, without moving, without pushing anyone. A pretty zen way to experience Primavera Sound that no one had thought of until now. Even if you’re on a tight schedule, you can catch everything from Fever House.
The part where Mesa Lobo saves our lives
Mesa Lobo is one of those spots in Barcelona with metal plates. Casual, local, creative cuisine featuring local produce. They’ve been featured in Vogue thanks to their natural wines, and now that we know about them too, let’s not give away such a well-kept secret.
At Fever House, they have a menu of dishes that is, without exaggeration, the best we’ve eaten at a festival in years.
The pancetta bikini with pork demi-glace is exactly what you imagine and more. The squid skewer with romesco and squid ink aioli tastes just like you imagine Barcelona tastes. The creamy chocolate with roasted strawberries and vanilla mascarpone is the kind of dessert that reminds you why you should always save room for an indulgent finale. The gnocchi and croquettes are a must-try.
For drinks, So de Tardor wines—local products, from the land, with people who explain where they come from and why it matters. The kind of wine you sip slowly and that deserves to be enjoyed while sitting on an ethereal beanbag like the ones at Fever House.
The DJs who don’t play on any of the big stages: the local scene
From 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day, Fever House hands the stage over to a DJ from Barcelona’s underground scene. These aren’t the names on the main lineup. They’re the names that will be on that lineup in two years, and we’re seeing them here, up close, with a glass of wine in hand. Keep an eye out—this lineup is worth checking out too:
