A woman gave birth yesterday, Monday, February 24, at Ciutat Meridiana station on line 11 of the Barcelona metro. The staff of the Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) station assisted the passenger, who began to have contractions on the platform waiting for the subway.
In response to the emergency call, James, TMB staff, and Julián, who was in charge of station security at the time, went to the platform and transferred her to the station premises. It was in the latter area where she finally gave birth.
According to TMB sources, the birth took place in the station itself before the emergency services were able to take the mother to the hospital at around 5 pm.
Both the mother and the newborn were later attended to by the emergency services.
