The storms and torrential rains that have ravaged Barcelona over the past few days have caused extensive damage and destruction throughout the city and the metropolitan area, but especially in the Torre Baró neighborhood. The enormous volume of water concentrated in just a few hours completely flooded the neighborhood’s streets, creating torrents, flooding homes, and sweeping away everything in its path.
Many streets remain blocked by mud, and although several groups of citizens have already come to the area to help with cleanup efforts, residents still need the help of “anyone who can get there” to clear away the mud, pump out water, and remove debris.
To continue these efforts, they also need shovels, gloves, street sweepers’ brooms, rubber boots, and heavy machinery ( such as excavators or tractors) capable of removing large amounts of dirt and debris.
Many of those affected feel helpless, and the lack of resources to solve the problem has led them to ask for help on social media. Residents are demanding more assistance from the authorities and fear that the rains will return in the coming days, causing the situation to worsen even further.
