On June 19, the Italian city of Turin became the epicenter of international haute cuisine with the celebration of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 gala, organized for the first time in Italy. The event, which took place at the Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli, brought together more than 1,300 guests, 250 media and chefs from all five continents.
In a ceremony that blended culinary tradition, avant-garde and spectacle, the Maido restaurant in Lima (Peru) was chosen as the best restaurant in the world, consolidating the dominance of Latin American cuisine on the global scene. Alongside Maido, restaurants from Mexico, Argentina, Japan, Denmark, France and Thailand are among the top ranked restaurants.
In addition to the general list, individual awards were presented in recognition of talent in areas such as sustainability, innovation, room service, sommelier and female leadership, with prominent names such as Massimo Bottura, Pichaya Soontornyanakij or Maxime Frédéric among the winners.
Barcelona’s only restaurant among the 50 Best
After the first place of Disfrutar in 2024 and previously of Celler de Can Roca, these Catalan restaurants could not appear on the list, since the 50 Best has a Hall of Fame where the winners retire to remain forever in the heaven of restaurants.
But that has not prevented Barcelona from having a restaurant among the 50 best in the world today. We are talking about Enigma, Albert Adrià’s restaurant, which occupies the 34th position in the ranking.
Thus, Enigma is consolidated as a world reference thanks to its creative, immersive and constantly evolving proposal, which reflects Adrià’s avant-garde vision. The presence of the Barcelona establishment on the list is complemented by another key recognition of the night: the Estrella Damm Chef’s Choice award, given to Albert Adrià himself by his colleagues as an inspirational figure in the world of cuisine.
Apart from Enigma, there are three more Spanish restaurants on the list. Asador Etxebarri (Vizcaya), known for its mastery of the grill and the product, comes in at number 2, just behind the overall winner, Maido. At number 4 is DiverXO, the groundbreaking Madrid restaurant of Dabiz Muñoz, consolidated as one of the most influential in the world. Finally, the Basque classic Elkano, in Getaria, occupies 24th position thanks to its mastery of grilled fish and its family legacy.
